CHARACTER INFO

Character: Lucanis Dellamorte
Canon: Dragon Age: The Veilguard. After his personal quest, "Bloodbath", which is in Act 2.
Age: 33-ish.

Background Information: Thank the Maker, there's a wiki for that.

As far as specific world state info, Lucanis is from a world state in which Rook saved Treviso, though no other major choices have yet been made that affect him. Spite is A Problem that hasn't been dealt with yet, due to the mid-game canon point.

Personality:
1) Tell us about who your character is and what someone’s first impression would be upon meeting them.
Lucanis is a master assassin of the Antivan Crows, raised and trained by his grandmother, Caterina, the First Talon and most powerful member of the guild. He's disciplined, strong-willed, has an iron control over himself, and has a strong sense of duty to his family and his country. On first meeting, he tends to come across as serious and reserved, with an excellent poker face. He's not nearly as flashy as some of his colleagues in the Crows, but he still takes a certain pride in his work, in always completing his contracts. He is, in his own words, a "professional". And he takes his job seriously. This hasn't changed, despite the added wrinkle of Spite, the demon who was forced into him after he was betrayed and captured by the Venatori. Spite is a thorn in Lucanis's side, representing all the things he was taught not to do - Spite is chaos where Lucanis tries to maintain control, unrestrained emotion where Lucanis tries to keep things bottled up. Needless to say, his inner demon is a constant source of tension and concern.

Beyond that, for the few people who earn his trust and get to see beyond the layers of trauma and emotional control, Lucanis is something of a softie - he's unfailingly loyal to his family, is thoughtful and considerate of his friends (he buys the team gifts at one point, and all of them are very thoughtful!), he is a hopeless romantic (he prefers romance novels!), and he enjoys the finer things in life, like good food and good wine. He'll even make jokes and tease his friends if he's comfortable enough.

2) What is a driving force your character has? What goals do they have, what motivates them, etc?
One might assume that vengeance for the wrongs done to him is his primary motivation, and that certainly is part of what drives Lucanis, but ultimately his main deal is duty. He believes he owes a duty to his family - especially his grandmother, who raised him and ensured he had the tools to stay alive - to the Crows in general, as the heir presumptive to the seat of First Talon, and to Antiva more broadly. He takes his contracts seriously - once accepted, he considers a contract binding and he will complete the job, no matter what. He originally joins Rook because of a contract, and despite the fact that he believes Caterina is dead, that only makes him more motivated to complete it. He's also ridiculously loyal to those who have earned his trust. For instance, in the wake of the dragon attacks on Treviso and Minrathous, and feeling somewhat guilty for the fact that Treviso was saved while Minrathous ended up with the Venatori taking power, he tells Neve that all of his resources are at her disposal, all she needs do is ask.

3) What are their flaws as a character? What is something they've messed up, or have done that they regret?
At his current canon point, Lucanis's biggest regret is his recent failure to kill Ghilan'nain, at the Siege of Weisshaupt. It's a big "you had one job" moment for him - though as many characters point out, he did far better at killing an ancient blighted god than just about anyone else could have - he managed to wound her. But she's still alive, and Lucanis feels the weight of that failure, and the lives lost because of it. He's never failed a contract before.

This ties into what is probably Lucanis's biggest character flaw, which is his extreme perfectionism. He feels like he has to be the best, at everything, and anything less than that is a failure. This is exacerbated by his PTSD from the Ossuary - is he as good as he used to be, or has Spite, and his status as an "abomination" somehow ruined him? He never feels like he's "enough", and this can be a hindrance to him both professionally and personally. He's trapped himself in a prison of his own mind, believing if he can't "get over" his trauma, then he's worthless. He has a hard time accepting that his recovery will take time, and require lots of baby steps.

4) Optional: What is something unique and interesting about them, or what is a fun little tidbit that sets them apart from the crowd?
Lucanis's hobby is cooking, and he's quite good at it. It relaxes him, and he enjoys feeding the people he cares about.

Abilities & Inventory: Abilities: Lucanis has all the abilities that an Antivan Crow would have - he's been trained in acrobatics, stealth, poisons, and of course swordsmanship. He himself admits that he would "have all the magical ability of a brick" - if it weren't for Spite, the demon that was forced into him while he was imprisoned in the Ossuary. Spite does give him some abilities that he wouldn't otherwise have, most notably some really cool-looking purple wings that allow him to swoosh around in combat in ways that non-magical people probably wouldn't be able to. He can also do some minor teleportation - not over long distances, and again, this is primarily a combat ability. The other thing Spite can do for him is, occasionally, pull objects from the Fade into the physical world. In-game, this is used mostly to create paths to spots with treasure chests, and solve puzzles. I'm not sure this would even come up in Escordvi but if you think any of this would need to be nerfed, just let me know.

Other than that, Spite is invisible to everyone but him, and generally can only be interacted with when or if he takes over Lucanis's body - which may happen when he's asleep or unconscious. Which is why Lucanis tries not to sleep!

As far as inventory is concerned, he'll arrive with his intro armor, a rapier and dagger, some vials of poison and several knives concealed about his person, because no Antivan Crow goes without that stuff.

ARMADA SELECTION

Paladins would probably work best for Lucanis - the Corsairs might seem like a better fit at first (and he'd probably do fine there too), but ultimately Lucanis's life is defined by duty and a rigid kind of order. His moral compass may be different from most people's, but he does have one - and in fact is shown going out of his way to help the helpless, for instance in the short story The Wigmaker's Job, he makes a contract more complicated than it would need to be, in order to free some slaves who are being tortured. He won't let people suffer needlessly. And, according to him, he has never killed an innocent person.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Sure. He's one of the best assassins in the world, trained from childhood, and he's killed a lot of people.
RELATIONSHIPS: Happy to assume Rooks/Neves on a romance track with him. He is canonically panromantic so I have no gender preference when it comes to shipping. Also fine with doing other ships, HOWEVER, please keep in mind that Lucanis is demisexual and requires a lot of buildup before he's willing to hop into bed with someone - I will generally ask that you at least contact me so that we can talk out some details BEFORE jumping into a shippy/smutty thread, especially if you want some cross-canon action. Lucanis is a slow burn, and I also enjoy and would like some slow burn CR development. Thank you! I will, of course, always default to unromanced/gen unless we've discussed it beforehand or are threading in a shipping meme.

Worldstate notes: I default to a world state in which Lucanis is softened, Minrathous is blighted and Treviso is saved. Lucanis made peace with Spite, focused on rescuing Caterina, and pardoned Illario. If you want to do something else for a thread, let me know! I am certainly willing to play with different world states.
